this product will last 2years, if your'e lucky. Great features, but if router or modem doesn't function your'e up the creek. If you do decide to buy it or any other product buy directly from amazon.com (not someone selling on amazon.com . I got taken for $200 that way with no way to get my money back!)

The small footprint and only needing to plug one thing in attracted me at first. I read good reviews and bad ones here and thought the bad ones are just the unlucky few who got defected units. So I bought one thinking I'll try my luck. Turns out my unit has the exact same problem.
Wireless drops when downloading files or streaming videos (anything with high bandwidth). I can watch an online video for 8 to 10 sec before the whole unit freezes and I need to reset (turn it off/on). There is nothing wrong with the connection because everything is fine if I do the samething with a wired cable.
Called Linksys 3x and after they told me to reset, change channal #, etc.... still having dropped wireless connection. The last Linksys tech says it needs a firmware upgrade but Linksys does not have it and the firmware has to be pushed by ISP (Comcast). Called Comcast who said they don't support router problems and they have no firmware available at all. This is apparently common according to Linksys's online support FAQ.
So, stay away....don't say we didn't warn you.
Not D3 standard compliant.

I have always had great service from Linksys products but this one arrived damaged. I then found out it did not support Docsis 3 standard which my carrier has upgraded. The supplier was very responsive with allowing return of the product but I still lost out on the shipping both ways.
Must have gotten a good unit...

I have read the comments here on Amazon, and quite frankly have had a pretty good experience with the unit. It is running in Florida, and maybe three or four times a year it needs to be bounced, but that is generally due to storms in the area. Very reliable, and have used it for remote access also.
The only reason I am looking to replace it is to run the Tomato firmware on it.
Has been in place since 3/2006.

I've had this item for two years and it has never been a problem--never. It is in use continuously.
Best to look elsewhere.

Bottom line: it works for an unknown amount of time, after which you will continually have to restart the unit any time you send too much data at once. Skype calls, more than 1 computer, Xbox Live, all of it. Kind of makes this gateway/router useless after a period of time. Try a different model.

Item seems to work well, but when using wireless and hard connected sometimes have to power off the router for it to connect. Overall works GREAT.
HUGE mistake

got this one at best buy and i was happy with it because the unit is a combination of cable modem and a wireless router in 1. bad part is that it disconnects the internet if you do simultaneous wireless connections/downloads. it has nothing to do with my internet provider. all my wired devices can download multiple files without disconnecting. it is when i connect my pc via the wifi that the internet connection is being disconnected. I even tried downloading just 2 podcasts simultaneously and then the internet goes down and you have to power cycle the modem.
so, if i were you, i would not even try it. oh yes, it will be good for 30 days. but after that, i wish you good luck. hehehe
STAY AWAY

This would get zero stars if that was an option.
This router is absolutely useless for wireless. Every morning my RSS feeds crash the router. After I reboot I can usually make it through about a tenth of my morning reading before it crashes again. Basically, to read all the news stories I need to in the morning, I have the option of either rebooting between six and 10 times or plugging directly into the modem.
This thing is junk. The only thing worse than this modem is the technical support, which is strangely enough unable to "support" for "technical" issues, such as, the modem crashes a dozen or more times a day.
If you don't mind resetting your modem several times a day, restarting downloads and not being able to watch videos or stream audio, then by all means, get yourself a WCG200. If you don't feel your life needs any more aggravation, go with Motorola.
The WCG200 is a wireless router and a cable modem. It only succeeds at half of its mission on any regular basis.
Do not buy

I hate to pile on here, but I also made the mistake of buying this thing. As others note, it cannot maintain an internet connection for more than a few hours, usually drops within minutes. I have tried it using both WEP and WPA. I have been through the mill with both my cable provider tech support and Linksys'. Finally convinced Linksys that it was their problem. So they sent me a new one that has exactly the same problem. Apparently that satisfies their warranty. I've tired of trying to get someone at Linksys to admit that there is a problem, so have gone back to using an old motorola modem and a new Belkin router. Uses more real estate but works fine.
UPDATE: After a few months, Linksys contacted me to discuss further. It would appear that this problem is due to the unit needing a firmware update, but one which my cable provider, Charter, would not provide. Shame on Charter, but I am stuck with them as they are the only high-speed provider where I live. I returned the combo, and Linksys provided the latest version of thier wireless router. With that, and a seperate modem, everything is fine. Linksys should not get a bum rap for this. They (eventually) tried to do the right thing, and did what they could. Avoid Charter, if you can.
