If you have cable internet there is no reason you should be renting a cable modem! Buy your own and stop wasting money. This cable modem has been working flawlessly for me for almost 6 months.
Works GREAT!

Works great! Sure beats the cable company's $5.00 per month modem rental fee. It will pay for itself in 10 months. I could have saved a few hundred dollars if I bought my own modem three years ago.
great product

This is the same as I was using. I wanted to hook up two modems to one cable connection. Something about windows 7 and windows XP didn't let it work. The modem is great and fast. A great backup.

Motorola SURFboard SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem - RoHS You Need to Pay Attention to this Review! This modem is stripped down and gutted. No Security / Standby Switch. MAC ID on Box does not match MAC ID on the Device! I do not believe for 1 second that this is a new device. I do not believe the seller to be reputable. Shipping is slow! Overall, a very big disappointment!
Easy replacement for rented modem

Quick shipping - I had it in 3 days with free super saver shipping.
Easy install - needed a 10minute call to comcast to set it up.
Will pay for itself from the saved modem rental fee in ~10 months.
Motorola SURFboard SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem

This modem rocks. Set up was simple, I plugged it in hit the internet, was redirected to Comcast's web page to register the modem, plugged in my account number followed the prompts and was online in minutes. This replaced an RCA 10mbs modem I was renting from Comcast. I had been having issues with log delays loading pages. Bandwidth speeds tests were coming back at 7-9 mbs on downloads and 1 mbs on uploads. With the Motorola SURFboard SB5101U I jumped to a consistent 18-23 mbs on downloads and 2.5 - 2.9 mbs on uploads, when it comes to computers this is the best $50 I have ever spent!
Good router, does its job.

This is the kind of utility I don't have much to say about its performance since, for me, I just turn it on and it works. Mine worked right out of the box, no configuration. I am getting performance a bit above what my cable internet service is rated at so I'm happy.
My main comment is that cable internet customers often lease these units from the provider at a few dollars per month. An advantage, of course, is that if the router breaks then the company replaces it. The disadvantage is that the cost of the lease adds up over the years. My service was charging about $5 / month or $60 / year for the lease and I expect such a router to last for years. So it's a far better deal just to buy the unit and replace as needed.
I chose this model for its moderate price and because the brand is the one typically used by the providers in my area. As it worked right away I have been happy with it.

It's been 6 days and the package hasn't even been shipped yet..I really do not care what condition it arrives in or how many wonderful reviews he has..If it is 6 days later and you haven't even shipped my merchandise yet, do not expect any further orders coming from me..

Great modem

Reviewer: usthaiguy,
My D-Link 202 died and I got this modem to replace it. Setup was super easy and I was back on the internet in minutes. It took longer to wait on hold with my cable company than it did to actually set this up. Don't know about durability yet. Speed is very comparable, and maybe faster than the old modem but the specs are about the same for both so I don't expect to see a difference. If you look at reviews for the similar version SB5101 (no U at the end) you'll see excellent reviews there too.
I thought about buying a Zoom product but this Motorola has a better rep and is cheaper.
